My name is Paul Rodkey, and the story behind Redline Custom Engraving is a lot more personal than simply deciding to start a business.

I was raised in small-town rural Pennsylvania, where hard work, respect, and doing things right weren't just talked about. They were how you lived. I've spent much of my working life behind the wheel as a local truck driver. Long days, early mornings, and countless miles have taught me the value of patience, determination, and appreciating the little things.

Outside of work, I'm happiest doing the things I've always loved. Hunting, fishing, spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, and working on cars. I've always enjoyed creating, modifying, and building things with my own hands. But in 2025, life changed in a way I wasn't prepared for.

In 2025, I lost my Pap. He was more than a grandfather to me. He helped raise me, taught me lessons that shaped the man I became, and was one of the most important people in my life. When I lost him, I lost a part of myself, too.

I wanted something personal that I could carry with me every day. Nothing extravagant. Just something meaningful that would keep a piece of him close, no matter where life took me. What I thought would be a simple search turned into frustration. Everywhere I looked, there seemed to be a compromise. Either the price was unreasonable, the personalization was limited to a handful of characters, or the quality simply wasn't something I felt would last. And when you're trying to preserve the memory of somebody who meant that much to you, settling for something that doesn't feel right isn't much of an option.

So I decided to do something about it.

I saved up my money and purchased my first laser engraving machine. I had a lot to learn, and I knew it. I spent countless hours figuring out the equipment, experimenting with materials, making mistakes, learning from them, and improving my work. One machine eventually led to another. New equipment brought new possibilities, new challenges, and more opportunities to create. What started as a personal project slowly grew into something I never expected.

In the fall of 2025, Redline Custom Engraving officially launched. I was proud of what I had started, excited to see where it could go, and looking forward to building something of my own. But life had other plans.

Not long after Redline launched, my grandmother became seriously ill as she battled advanced Alzheimer's disease. She had always been another one of the strongest influences in my life. After losing my Pap, watching her health decline was something I wasn't prepared to face. With the help of family, I devoted much of my time to caring for her and being there when she needed us. Orders, projects, ideas, and plans for Redline suddenly weren't important anymore. Family came first.

The business I had worked so hard to get started went on the back burner. And I was okay with that, because there are things in life far more important than running a business. Unfortunately, in early 2026, we lost her too. Losing both of my grandparents in such a short period left a hole in my life that I honestly don't think will ever completely go away. The grief, the exhaustion, and everything that came with those losses took their toll.

The lasers got turned off. The projects stopped. And for a while, so did Redline.

I buried myself in my regular job and the automotive world. Working, driving, and spending time around cars gave me something to focus on when I wasn't quite sure what to do with everything I was feeling. I needed time away. Not because I had lost interest in creating things, but because I needed to find my footing again.

With some time to clear my head, reflect on everything that happened, and start looking toward the future, I realized something. I didn't want Redline to become another unfinished chapter. I started this business because I wanted to preserve the memory of someone who meant the world to me. Now, after losing both of the people who helped shape so much of my life, that purpose means even more.

So I'm proud to say: Redline Custom Engraving is back.

With more experience, new ideas, a clearer direction, and more determination than ever. But this isn't about making up for lost time or chasing every possible sale. It's about building Redline into what I always wanted it to be. A place where quality matters, creativity is encouraged, people are treated fairly, and the finished work represents something worth being proud of.

I want to take my time, continue learning, challenge myself, and enjoy the process of creating. Because life has taught me that success isn't always measured in dollars. Sometimes it's measured in the memories we preserve, the people we meet, and the happiness we bring to someone else.

Redline was never started with dreams of becoming a massive company or chasing the biggest profit margin. I already have a career that I'm proud of. Redline gives me something different. An opportunity to work with my hands, challenge myself creatively, meet good people, and create pieces that genuinely mean something to somebody.

I believe quality craftsmanship should be appreciated, but it shouldn't have to come with an outrageous price tag. My goal is to charge fairly for my materials, time, and craftsmanship while making meaningful, personalized work accessible whenever possible. I'm not interested in mass production, cutting corners, or pushing out hundreds of identical products just to make another dollar. I'd rather take the time to get something right. Because sometimes the smallest things carry the biggest memories.

The same things that shaped my life continue to influence my work. The pride of a car enthusiast who's spent years building a vehicle. A hunter remembering their first trip into the woods with their grandfather. A family celebrating a new beginning. A pet owner preserving the memory of a loyal companion. A small business representing years of hard work. A community recognizing somebody who made a difference.

Not every project has to be emotional or tell some extraordinary story. Sometimes it's simply about creating something unique, useful, or personal that somebody is proud to own. Whether I'm creating a single keepsake, a memorial tribute, something for a car club, or personalized pieces for a business or organization, the approach doesn't change.

Do it right. Pay attention to the details. Take pride in the finished product.

Losing the two people who helped raise me changed the way I look at life. It reminded me that time isn't guaranteed, that the little things often become the biggest memories, and that the people we love leave pieces of themselves in everything they teach us.

My Pap taught me so much about hard work, determination, and taking pride in what you do. My grandmother showed me the importance of family, love, and being there for the people who matter. Those lessons didn't disappear when they passed. They're part of who I am, and they'll always be part of Redline.

I can't bring back the time I've lost with them. But I can carry forward what they taught me and use what I've learned to help others preserve the people, milestones, achievements, and passions that matter in their own lives.

Redline will continue to grow, improve, and explore new possibilities. But no matter how much it changes, I never want to lose sight of where it began. I'm not trying to build the biggest engraving shop.

I'm trying to build something I'd be proud to put my family's name behind.

And if something I create helps someone remember a loved one, celebrate an achievement, represent their passion, or simply smile when they look at it, then Redline is doing exactly what I hoped it would.
